Charles Clarke and homestead
Charles Clarke and homestead
This is a copy of a photo showing Charles Clarke's house that he built in Leigh. Charles' and his family are standing in front of the house and they are are identified on the reverse side of the photograph. (See next photo). Agnes Matheson (nee Torkington), one of Charles grand children owned the photo at one time and she made the inscription on the photo's reverse side. The photo from which this copy has been made is of poor quality, having quite low contrast and significant loss of detail. The photo is 14 cm x 10 cm and shows vignetting in the 4 corners as if it is itself a copy of another, perhaps the true original photograph. The photo was probably taken around 1885 based on the apparent ages of the children. Charles wife Mary died in 1883.
