1360 | Garry Warwick Roberts, Marion's second son was born 2nd June 1949 and like his brother Graeme attended Wesley Primary and Intermediate Schools, and later Lynfield College. Garry's sporting interest was hockey, representing his College in the Hockey team, and playing for several years at Club level. He joined the firm of Auckland Typographical Services Ltd, printers, and completed his apprenticeship. In 1970, when he was 21 he sailed to the UK on his OE. He travelled extensively overseas where he met and married his wife Josephine Ann Parks. He was married in Loughton, Essex, on 21st August 1971. Two years later they returned to New Zealand and they settled down in Auckland and had a family, Kerrin Kayne and Nikki Antoinette. In 1975 Gary and Jo decided to build their own home in the Auckland suburb of Titirangi. So off went Gary, to take a few lessons with the local builders, and one year later they shifted into their brand new pole home, built entirely by themselves. Gary did not stop his building antics there, a few years later he and Jo decided to build a spec home in New Lynn. Gary has always been very artistic and went on to design yet another home, which was built by a friend of his. In the early 90?s they bought some land in the suburb of Lynfield and sold their Titirangi home and built a new home on their newly acquired piece of land where they remain today. Of course, his main artistic flair was his art. He has painted since childhood as a hobby and in 2005 after working for the NZ Herald for over 30 years as a graphic artist and printer, decided it was time he became professional, so embarked on a full time career as a Professional Artist. His works have been sent and greatly admired all over the world, and exhibited in many galleries in New Zealand. Gary's art work can be viewed on www.garywroberts.vc.net.nz Amongst his other achievements was his Private Pilots Licence. | ROBERTS, Gary Warwick (I03903)

1375 | Gloria was born 22 August 1941 in Hamilton. She was the second child of Maurice and Flo Yendell. Perhaps the birth of a daughter may have caused extra excitement for Maurice who was from a family of seven sons. Gloria attended Waikato Diocesan School in Hamilton from 1947 to 1958. Early on at school Gloria?s natural sporting ability was obvious. She represented the school in most sports, swimming, basketball, tennis and gymnastics being among her favorites. She also had a natural musical ability. She was often the soloist in both the chapel choir and school choir. On leaving school Gloria decided she wanted to train to be a PE teacher. Swords College in Sydney was chosen. It was where her PE teacher had trained and Gloria had enjoyed the method of teaching. However, Maurice felt Gloria was too young to go to Sydney on her own straight from school so arranged for her to spend a year working at the Hamilton public library. In 1960 it was off to Sydney for 3 years study. On graduation she took a teaching position at St Matthews Collegiate in Masterton. In 1966 she decided to return to Hamilton. While looking for a new position she offered to help in the curtaining and Manchester department of Yendells? Furnishers, the family business. She thoroughly enjoyed the work and so a career change was made. Sadly Gloria was diagnosed with cancer in 1967 and died 30 March 1968. Gloria had a gentle, fun loving nature. Her ability to always see the good in people combined with a humble graciousness meant people of all ages responded to her. This was evident by the large number of people who attended her funeral. ?Blessed are the pure in Heart? is the fitting inscription on her headstone. | YENDELL, Gloria Claire (I03838)

1388 | Graeme Maurice Roberts, born 5th July 1946 received his education at Wesley Primary and Intermediate Schools, and Lynfield College, Auckland. On leaving College he joined the Health Department and gained the Royal N.Z. Society of Health Diplomas. After 10 years' service to the Dept. he resigned and joined the American firm of "Neotec" Instruments Ltd, and became their regional Manager Representative for New Zealand, Australia and England. He played hockey, was a member of Auckland Jaycees. Another interest was the Scouting movement, passing through Cub, Scout and Venturer sections. He has travelled extensively overseas. On 8 December 1979 he married Clare Margaret Godwin Smith at the small village Church of "Our Lady of Lourdes", Wheatley, Oxfordshire, England. Clare was a New Zealand girl from Orewa. An extract of interest, and describing much happier times is from a letter -written in England by Florence Yendell on the 2 December 1979 to her cousin Henry Stewart Walkley in New Zealand:- "You would have loved to be with all the Walkleys on our last weekend with Freda and Elizabeth. Eight members of my family and a new addition. My nephew Graeme waited until our arrival to announce his engagement to a Dunedin girl. They are being married in Wheatley where they both live and work, on 8 December (1979). A Walkley gathering was planned for the weekend, so with sleeping bags and extras, off we went to Wheatley. Freda, Elizabeth, Barry, Joy & I, where my sister Marion, son Graeme and Clare (fiance) and Mark, the youngest son, were waiting. First of all to the village Pub. to celebrate the engagement with drinks and a meal - Lots of fun. Next morning all packed into two cars and off to Stroud to visit the Church where our Great-Grandparents were married, then on to Horsley and Nailsworth where we visited the Church and found a Mrs Walkley was doing the flowers for a Harvest Festival Sunday. Seventeen Walkley names in the local 'phone book, but quite impossible in our short time there to contact them. Saw very old Walkley tombstones, but apart from deciphering the name, we could not read any of the dates. Then off to find "Walkley Wood" and had our photo taken under the sign-post - Quite an emotional feeling both Marion and I felt while standing there and both wished Dad could have known - or even been with us. On Sunday we had a formal dinner at Studley Priory Hotel, which finished off an exciting and happy weekend." Graeme & Clare had 3 children, Carl, Anna and Jane who have all graduated from University and are now pursuing jobs overseas. The family left New Zealand to settle in the Middle East for 10 years. Graeme had a teaching position in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. In 1994 they returned to New Zealand and presently live in Northcote, Auckland | ROBERTS, Graeme Maurice (I03900)
