2362 | Patrick Heremaia's Notes: George was William Bill Ward's uncle. We met him when we went overland to England in 1970. George married twice. His first wife was a Lewin. We did not get her christian name. His second wife we do not know her name. George had a son from his second marriage who was a panel beater working in London in 1970 when we were there. We took photos of Uncle Bill. Bill & Dot met George's son & his "bodgie" friend. They were very friendly and polite. Uncle George also took Bill and Dot to meet uncle Bob's wife. Her name was Alice [Ward]. She was 70 years old and was living with one of her daughters in an old traditional English cottage with very low ceilings. Her life style was very simple. She was also widowed and had 10 children. After visiting uncle Bob's wife, Alice, uncle George took Bill and Dot to another one of his daughters somewhere on the outskirts of Lincoln. The woman was not that interested in meeting Bill & Dot, but instead was preoccupied in the fact that her TV was not going and she was going to miss seeing Coronation Street that night. Her son went to buy her a new TV. Uncle George gave Bill & Dot the address of another daughter living in Slough. Her name was Elsie, she married Fred. Fred worked at a Mars Bar chocolate factory. Sally and Vern took Bill and Dot down to see them. Uncle George also gave Bill and Dot the address of his aunty Maud [nee Scott], who was the sister of his mother, Lillian Scott. Maud lived in Horncastle. Jocelyn and I went with Bill and Dot to visit his aunty Maud and her husband. She spoke of her Golden Wedding Anniversary which was going to be held at Bill Scott's widows home which was in the neighbour hood. [Bill & Dot had a photo of Bill Scott, Bill's uncle, the brother to his mother.] | WARD, George (I04090)

2364 | Paul was born on 8th February 1951, eldest son of the 2 boys born to Joan & Ron INGRAM. Paul lived in the family home, built by his parents at 66 Carlton Road, Glen Eden,(later renamed Savoy Road) Auckland, for over 20 years. Paul attended Glen Eden Primary School, Glen Eden Intermediate and Kelston Boys High School. He left school at the end of the 4th Form to start an apprenticeship in Panel beating with Rob Williams Panel beaters in Glen Eden. As a fully qualified Panel beater he left NZ and did a stint in London & Europe. On his return he met Allison (nee Walker), became engaged and started his own Panel beating business in Kumeu in 1973. Paul and Allison married on 12 October 1974 and commenced building their home in the Waitakere Ranges of West Auckland, Swanson, where they still live to this day. From when Paul & Allison first met until the early 1980?s Allison worked for the Bank of New Zealand followed for a short time with AGC Finance Ltd. She went on to open her own Coffee Lounge in Kumeu Village for 7 years until she sold it in 1990. Paul operated his Panel beating business (Paul Ingram Panel beaters Limited) for 23 years, selling it to his first apprentice in 1996. Three years later, in 1999, Paul and Allison purchased the house next-door to their own and turned it into a Bed & Breakfast guest accommodation-Panorama Heights B&B. 10 years on they are still enjoying welcoming guests and travelling overseas, they still live in their original home, built by themselves over 30 years ago. | INGRAM, Paul Murray (I03908)

2394 | Possibly surname Briggs based on 1841 and 1851 census that has a Mary Briggs with the same birthplace and approx birth year. However her daughter Mary Ann Ward was born in 1849 (Mary Briggs was still living with her parents in 1851). She could have been born before her parents were married? Or alternatively Mary Briggs was not Mary Ward. Interestingly there is a Mary A Briggs aged 1 year old listed as a daughter of the Briggs family in the 1851 census. In the 1861 census they have no children living with them. On balance I think it's more likely than not that Mary was Mary Briggs, daughter of John Briggs. There is a question of whether Sarah Briggs was the mother of Mary given she was only 14 or 15 years older than Mary. Maybe a second wife? | BRIGGS, Mary (I2130)
