Notes |
- Yvonne Berry (nee Walkley) married Lawrence Berry 9 December 1967, St Judes Anglican Church, Avondale. We have two sons - Michael born 25 November 1973 and Nicolas born 14 February 1976.
Both of the boys went to St Leonards Primary School, Kelston, then Kelston Intermediate, and completed their education at Avondale College.
Michael spent one year in Minnesota as an AFS student, after completing high school. On his return from the USA, Michael worked for the ASB Bank for a short time then moved to Brisbane, Australia as a karate instructor. He ultimately completed a Sales course and moved into retail. Michael and his family still live in Brisbane and he is currently selling roof restorations. In his spare time he competes in road cycling events and he also has a keen, active interest in range shooting.
Nicolas went to Unitec after high school and completed a two-year Diploma in Stage and Screen Acting. He has been in numerous stage productions, on TV (Shortland Street), and in TV commercials. To put himself through Technical College, Nicolas worked in a café and learnt the art of the barista. He and his wife Rachel purchased a mobile coffee van run which they built up and finally sold so as to enable them to have their own cafe.
In mid 2007, they opened their cafe, with an espresso bar which they built up from scratch, in Takapuna. They also have barista training classes for beginner, experienced and hobbyist baristas.
Yvonne returned to the work force when Michael and Nicolas were at Avondale College, working in the Administration area and then in the International Student Department at Avondale College. In 2007, after 18 years there, she left to help Nic and Rachel out with the Administration side of running the café for a year and is now Receptionist at a medical supply company in Avondale.
2007 was also a year of change of Lawrie, who after 36 years with Air New Zealand, returned to carpentry.
We have four grandchildren - Mikayla and Nicolas who were born in and live in Queensland, Australia, and Ethan and Zoe who live on the North Shore, Auckland.
