  Darren went to Sweden and met and married Annika Norburg from Sweden. He was a shearer when he lived there. During that time, he won shearing competitions three times becoming the Champion Shearer of Sweden in 1998, 1999 and in 2000. He came back to New Zealand settling in Taupo where he lives now.
