  • Notes
    • George was William Bill Ward's uncle. We met him when we went overland to England in 1970.

George married twice. His first wife was a Lewin. We did not get her christian name. His second wife we do not know her name. George had a son from his second marriage who was a panel beater working in London in 1970 when we were there. We took photos of Uncle Bill. Bill & Dot met George's son & his "bodgie" friend. They were very friendly and polite.

Uncle George also took Bill and Dot to meet uncle Bob's wife. Her name was Alice [Ward]. She was 70 years old and was living with one of her daughters in an old traditional English cottage with very low ceilings. Her life style was very simple. She was also widowed and had 10 children.

After visiting uncle Bob's wife, Alice, uncle George took Bill and Dot to another one of his daughters somewhere on the outskirts of Lincoln. The woman was not that interested in meeting Bill & Dot, but instead was preoccupied in the fact that her TV was not going and she was going to miss seeing Coronation Street that night. Her son went to buy her a new TV.

Uncle George gave Bill & Dot the address of another daughter living in Slough. Her name was Elsie, she married Fred. Fred worked at a Mars Bar chocolate factory. Sally and Vern took Bill and Dot down to see them.

Uncle George also gave Bill and Dot the address of his aunty Maud [nee Scott], who was the sister of his mother, Lillian Scott. Maud lived in Horncastle. Jocelyn and I went with Bill and Dot to visit his aunty Maud and her husband. She spoke of her Golden Wedding Anniversary which was going to be held at Bill Scott's widows home which was in the neighbour hood. [Bill & Dot had a photo of Bill Scott, Bill's uncle, the brother to his mother.]
