  Kate and her husband emigrated to New Zealand prior to Frederick Ward and his wife Lillian Kate's sister. Kate and her husband did some sharemilking on a farm in Whitehead's Lane between Patea and Kakaramea in South Taranaki, Lillian and Frederick went to join them after only a short time at Knightcaps, Invercargill living with his nephew, George Skipworth. George's mother was Frederick Ward's sister, and George and his wife had emigrated to NZ a few years earlier.
