Elizabeth died in 1932.
Alan was then raised with the help of his grandmother Jessie Grace & aunty Constance.
After his father Francis Ross married Dora Petherick Alan went to live with them. He was 5 years of age then.
At 8 years of age he went to live in Auckland. He attended Point Chevalier Primary school. When his father and Dora moved in to their home at 14 Arapuni Avenue, Onehunga, Alan went to Onehunga Primary school. He was a first year student at Manukau Intermediate when it opened.
High School years were at Otahuhu College.
After leaving High School, he became a telephone technician. His main interest was in singing and he joined the Auckland Operatic Society. He performed in many productions played at His Majesty Theatre in Auckland city,
He became engaged however they broke up as Alan found interest in God's Word.
At a Bible Convention in Wellington in 1953, Alan met his wife Robyn Smith. He left Auckland to live in Christchurch where Robyn lived with her parents, Vic and Nell Smith.
They were married in 1954 in Christchurch and Francis Ross, Dora and sister Lois were in attendance.
Alan and Robyn had three sons: Trevor, Bruce and Russell and finally a daughter was born to them - Susan Ruth.
In the 1970's, they immigrated to Australia.
Alan died on the 2nd December 1995.
