Notes |
- This must be the "Kathy Smith" referred to in the caption of a photo of Donald Campbell.
- There is quite a lot of information about her in S&S page 322.
She lived in "Tower House" at Grey Lynn. This must be 4 Franklin Road, Ponsonby, the address that was given in Captain James Smith's death notice. This is a large Victorian house with a tower that is still standing and has recently been renovated.
No children.
Smith's Bush, Northcote road is named after them.
- Lived at Conquest Place, Parnell in 1878 (marriage notice in NZ Herald of wedding that took place at their house).
- NEW ZEALAND HERALD, VOLUME LXXI, ISSUE 21904, 13 SEPTEMBER 1934, PAGE 15
Reports on a legal battle about her will.
- She was very rich when she died.
Her probate file is available online from the Archives New Zealand site (I couldn't find it on Family Search).
She had a long list of benefactors including nieces and nephews and lots of charities.
