Notes - 970302 Bill England's father had a house at the top of Pitt Street, Auckland, which was sold in 1925 for 900 pounds. In1987, just before the financial crash, the land it stood on was valued at $3 000 000. This represents an annualappreciation of 13%. Bill and his two sisters sold the property, and this enabled Bill to build the house at West EndRd, and to set up his haberdashery shop in Otahuhu. - Bill, talking with me today, at Syd's place, in Hutton St.
- I spoke to Pattie and to Geof Ruck; and to Diane and to Andie Thompson. None seemed all that interested in genealogy. However, Diane introduced me to Don Stewart, whose wife, I think, had prepared a genealogy of Bill's ancestors. DonStewart, 17 Coronation Rd, Glenfield, Ph 09 4809 811.
- Cottage completed on the Ti Point property. Which was 10 years before Harold died. [5]
- Business in Otahuhu was sold. [3, 5]
- I don't seem to be able to link Bill England (#1120) with the Mathesons. Diane Thomson states that Bill's mother was bornDolina Finlayson (#3072); her first child was born in 1891; she would therefore have been born about 1871 or perhapslater. Who was her father? Perhaps John Finlayson (#118), whose wife was Dollena Adair (#119), or perhaps of JohnFinlayson's son Donald (#121) - I note that he seems to have had four unnamed children. But in both cases the dates aredifficult. John Finlayson (#118) I assume was born c. 1854, and yet Dolina Finlayson was born about 1871 or earlier.Donald Finlayson (#121) was born say 1884, and yet Dolina Finlayson was born about 1871 or later. The best fit forBill's mother is therefore as a daughter of John Finalayson (#118) and Dollena Adair (#119), a daugher I've not got in mydata. If we so choose, then, pace my note in a family tree, Catherine Finlayson [#77] is not the sister of BillEngland's grandfather but of his great grandfather. His great grandmother was therefore Chistina Matheson (#65), sisterto our Angus Matheon (#61).
