See "A Guide to Leicester 1843". http://specialcollections.le.ac.uk/cdm/compoundobject/collection/p15407coll9/id/14490/rec/7 (the year before his death) This is also referred to in death notice in Leicester Chronicle "Yesterday in his 76th year, John Coltman Esq. High Bailiff of this Borough." And in Catherine Beale "'The little boy' lived, grew up, and married ; he was John Coltman, Esq., an honourable resident and High Bailiff of the Borough of Leicester, grandfather of the present family of Clarke."
