Name |
CLARKE, Thomas Worthington [1] |
- The head and centre of nonconformity in Leicester was the congregation of the Great Meeting, the chapel in East BondStreet which Presbyterians and Independents had combined to build in 1708. It had been Presbyterian during the greaerpart of the century, and was still occasionally referred to as such by members of other denominations -- presumably fromforce of habit -- as late as 1802. But towards the end of the long ministry (1741 - 97) of the Rev Huigh Worthington itcame, like other Presbyterian congregations elsewhere, under the latitudinarian influence of Dr Joseph Priestley.
- Patterson, and he gives a reference to: Thomas and Paget, History of the Great Meeting, Leicester.
