      Abstract According to the late 1950's tombstone transcriptions Benjamin Smith was born 29 March 1814 and died 27 September 1867, his wife Martha Smith was born 1 November 1816 and died 26 or 28 January 1891, William Benjamin Smith(husband of Amelia Smith) died 16 February 1903 aged 63 years and is buried with daughters Beatrice and Edith Smith. A note has that William Benjamin Smith was born 29 April 1839. The St Paul's register has Benjamin Smith buried 29 September 1867 aged 53 years of Papakura. The Suffrage Centennial Women's Register has Martha Smith (nee Nevy or Neavey) died 26 January 1891 and buried in the Anglican section. The New Zealand Herald of 27\1\1891 has Martha Smith died 26 January 1891 aged 74 years, relict of Benjamin Smith, and buried 29 January 1891. The New Zealand Herald of 18\2\1903 has William Benjamin Smith died 16 February 1903 aged 63 years, eldest son of the late Benjamin Smith, and buried 18 February 1903 in Symonds Street Cemetery.

The Anglican memorial of removed graves has William Benjamin died 16 February 1903,Beatrice, Edith, Benjamin and Martha. The Photographs at Auckland City Libraries of the TOMBSTONE in the Anglican section at D\BOUNDARY WALL of January 1995 (Neg.       "The inn, kept by an adventurous character named Benjamin Smith, had been fortified with three-inch planks loopholed opposite the windows for rifle fire. But while it might provide rest, and perhaps protection, for the living, there was no rest there for the dead. Mrs Smith would have no bodies in her establishment, although her son did say that they might leave Hamlin's remains in a back shed."
