Notes - Four Marys born around 1829 in Dunston from the Parish Register:
Mary Ann Cater Feb 11 1827
Mary Ann Norton Oct 1 1826
Mary Ann Neils Jan 7 1826
Mary Wilmot Jul 24 1825
Can't find any of these marrying a John Ward. - Possibly surname Briggs based on 1841 and 1851 census that has a Mary Briggs with the same birthplace and approx birth year.
However her daughter Mary Ann Ward was born in 1849 (Mary Briggs was still living with her parents in 1851). She could have been born before her parents were married? Or alternatively Mary Briggs was not Mary Ward.
Interestingly there is a Mary A Briggs aged 1 year old listed as a daughter of the Briggs family in the 1851 census. In the 1861 census they have no children living with them.
On balance I think it's more likely than not that Mary was Mary Briggs, daughter of John Briggs.
There is a question of whether Sarah Briggs was the mother of Mary given she was only 14 or 15 years older than Mary. Maybe a second wife?
