CLARKE, John

-
Name CLARKE, John [1] - Alvin originally had his name given as "John Charles" but his name is listed as just "John" in the death record in BDM Online as well as burial records at Purewa. I think the "John Charles" Alvin found the record for (see listed source) was a different John Clarke.

In old letters written between Agnes Matheson and Alma Smith (sisters and grand daughters of Charles Septimus Clark) John is referred to as "Uncle Jack" --Vern
Birth 11 Jan 1872 [2] - Alvin has a date of 9 Nov 1873, sourced from the Warkworth Baptismal register, but this date seems incorrect. John Clarke was almost certainly born 11 Jan 1872, as listed for John Clarke in the BDM Online. The birth date of 11 Jan 1872 is also mentioned in Clarkes Diary at various anniversaries. The date also checks with the age at death.

This book is disappointing. It's centred mainly on Maori history of the area. There is no reference anywhere to a'Clarke'.
