  On Sarah Anne Cain's death registry entry his occupation is given as Solider, though his first name is not given. Information at http://ouraucklandstuff.freeservers.com/CFJohnShields.htm (see attached media) Suggests that a John Shields with wife Hannah may have been a son. However John, Hannah and Mary Shields arrived in New Zealand in 1864: https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/NZ18640531.2.16?query=john%20shields Catherine Casey got his name from her mother. A John Shiel died in 1878 aged 76Y. His probate record gives his wife as Sarah, his residence as Wellington and his occupation as Naval Engineer. This is not the same John Shiels. Probate for John Shields gives his children as Thomas James (Tinsmith), Katherine, Margaret Gray, Annie, Edward, William, Mary Benner Tracy. This John Shields died 21 June 1925 aged 92, putting his year of birth as about 1833. According to probate records he was born in Belfast. This is the same John Shields listed as a possible child of John Shiels in the Fencible records. Issue of JOHN SHIEL(D)S & ANN McKEARNEY according to http://ouraucklandstuff.freeservers.com/CFJohnShields.htm Note sure where this information is from. Thomas looks right. John and Hannah arrived in New Zealand in 1864 so that doesn't seem likely. I can't find any birth information about Mary Ann. Maybe order her death record?
